Q: What is the breakdown of the results?

Within the cohort of 12 students, 9 scored Grade A1 or A2. 1 scored B3. 4 of them saw impressive improvement of at least 2 grades. Overall EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE! Our Einstein elites come from Tanjong Katong Girls’ School, Ahmad Ibrahim Secondary School, Holy Innocent Secondary School, Pei Hwa Secondary School, Bartley Secondary School and Serangoon Secondary School.

Q: How did the students achieve their desired grades?

The students prepared for their WA1 at least 1 month in advance, knowing that it is a crucial year since they are taking the O level exam this year. They spent time and effort to go through the tuition notes and school materials thoroughly as the topics tested are the major and difficult ones in the A Math syllabus. They internalised the proper methods and concepts, did questions from the ten-year series and the assessment books. More importantly, they worked out the solutions step by step, showing all the steps clearly. For the questions that they were unsure, they checked back the model solutions and redid them to assess themselves if they could recall and apply the method correctly to derive the solution. Early and extensive revision made a positive impact in their preparation for this WA1.

Q: What did the tutors do to help the students in this subject?

The A Math tutors covered the entire topic in full details, explained extensively the concepts from the basic to the intermediate to the advance ones as well as emphasized on the required methods to solve the questions effectively. Consistent testing on the critical steps within the methods were done with the students to ensure a strong and complete understanding on how the methods worked and why the critical steps played a crucial part in deriving the solution correctly. From time to time, the tutors inculcated the good habit of showing all the steps clearly in a step-by-step fashion into the students, thus greatly improving the clarity and accuracy of their work.

Q: What changes were observed in the students over the course of study?

The students, recognising that they are going to take the O level exam this year, showed more urgency in both their classwork and homework. They are more focused and meticulous in their work during the tuition lessons. More thoughts and analysis are carried out when they are doing the questions, thus leading to more efforts and quality of work. Most notably, the students will not hesitate to step forward to clarify any doubts they have with the tutor.
