Q: What results did you get for Math in the Sec 2 EOY exam last year and the WA1 this year?

I didn’t make it for the EOY exam last year with F9. I was determined to do much better this year and I shone through my WA1 with the best grade A1!

Q: What did you do in your preparation for the WA1 this time round and how was it different from last time?

Previously, I was unable to recall the formulas and the concepts despite my revision. For the WA1 this time round, I did a thorough revision by studying the tuition notes in depth especially on the methods and the steps. As the tuition notes were comprehensive, I could remember much better the effective methods including the proper steps. Thus, I was more confident when I did the questions from the assessment books before the WA1, knowing well what methods to use and what steps to show in the answer.

Q: What did the tutors in the Achievers’ class do to help you in this subject?

In the Achievers’ class, the E Math tutor taught the current topics in line with what I was learning in school. He explained the methods clearly in a step-by-step manner. The tutor also made extra efforts to reinforce the methods and the steps by testing me consistently every lesson. This helped me to remember them more effectively. Along the way, he would identify the errors that I made and drilled me with similar questions until I could apply the correct steps without repeating the errors. That was how the tutor cleared my doubts and grew my confidence in E Math.

Q : What did the tutor in the Focus class do to help you in this subject?

With the smaller class size, I feel that the Focus class was able to target my weaknesses better. The misconceptions that I had from the previous topics were identified and rectified by the tutor through intensive drillings and testings. I finally made sense of the previous topics after learning the proper methods with the correct steps. More importantly, my confusions were thoroughly ironed out and it helped me to understand much better the current topics since they were built up from the previous ones. The Focus class also addressed my critical errors as well as the habitual errors, thus improving the accuracy and confidence in my work. It also increased my exposure to other school exam papers which pushed me to analyse the questions deeper and think more thoroughly from a wider range of topics instead of throwing in the white flag.

Q: What is your target for the EOY exam this year? What will you do to achieve it?

My target is to maintain my current grade A1 all the way to the EOY exam this year.

I will continue to study the tuition notes in greater detail and practice the ten-year series and other school exam papers consistently. I will continue to clarify my doubts with the tutors by taking more initiatives to bring questions to ask the tutors whenever I am not sure.
