Q: How did the students achieve their desired grades?

The students started their revision 1 month in advance, ensuring that they would not have a lack of time to revise. They asked questions whenever in doubts. Through the questions they posed, the tutor could get a better sense of their preparations and provide them with more effective guidance in the right direction.

Q: What did the tutors do to help the students in this subject?

The Chemistry tutor used many examples as well as challenging questions which enabled the students to think, analyse and understand what the questions meant and what approaches and concepts they should apply in their answers.
Other than written work, the tutor would ask many verbal questions now and then to ensure the consistencies in the students in terms of their concepts and the critical points in answering various structured questions. In this way, the students were trained to be alert especially in identifying the nitty-gritties in the questions and push themselves to analyse more thoroughly (than what they usually did last time) when they answered the questions. This developed their thinking and application skills in Pure Chemistry.

Q: What changes were observed in the students over the course of study?

After the Chemistry tutor taught them the 5W1H method which could be applied to any subject, the students were observed to be more proactive with their studies. Instead of passively waiting for the tutor to spoon feed them, the students would always question themselves on what they did and did not understand, hence they found the motivations to ask questions to clarify their doubts and strengthen their understanding.
